A lucky miner won what was apparently the sum of a saloon keeper’s worldly possessions. As a result the saloon keeper reportedly opted for the next world.

Tricolored Heron taken at Lake Martin Louisiana Canon EOS 60D ISO 200 1/500 sec. f/7.1 280mm This photo was taken during breeding season as denoted by the bill. Normally yellow the Tricolored Heron’s bill turns blue during the breeding season. The tricolored heron hunts in shallow swamps, lagoons and bayous for fish, amphibians, insects, and crustaceans.

Cora was quite the trooper to get up before sunrise and wait in a cold car while I took pictures at Oxbow Bend.  The next morning she turned in her trooper’s badge and opted to stay in our nice warm cottage and spend a comfy leisurely morning sipping freshly brewed coffee. While I love my …
